The Article – Good Science Always Has Political Ramifications

Why? Because a scientifically testable claim can be shown to be either most probably true or false, whether the claim is made by a king or a president, a Pope, a Congressperson, or a common citizen

The Book – Fool me twice fighting the assault on science in America by Shawn Lawrence Otto
In this book, the author points out that only about 2% of politicians have any science background, most popular media is antithetical to science (while promoting fringe and pseudo-science). It’s a behind-the-scenes look at how the government, our politics, and the media prevent us from finding the real solutions we need – and offers suggestions about what we can do to change course.

The Conference – Durban Climate Change Conference. It has just started and to show what a fucked up country we are, the Harper Government has let it be known that we are officially abandoning the Kyoto accord and eccentrically given the middle finger to the rest of the world with regards to climate change.
It is a non-starter and NO one thinks anything will be accomplished. In fact, beyond the possibility that ‘lesser nations’ that are on the verge of extinction because of climate change may elicit some moral support, most major nations are abandoning any coordinated activity on climate change for ‘economic’ reasons.

The Media – Democracy Now – week long coverage of Durban. Democracy now, an independent media outlet is providing the most comprehensive coverage of the climate change conference. To be fair, they are not the most corporate friendly entity but in do so they provide a balance against the pro-corporate mass media. You will hear sides of the debate that are never covered in the main stream media. Check it out at democaracynow.org

The end point – We plan to have a special episode in the future as to how to plan for dramatic climate change in the near future. It seems apparent that the corporate governance will prevent us from doing even token efforts to alleviate, let alone prevent, dramatic climate change in our lifetimes. So, if we are going to crash, and we ARE going to crash, how can you prepare you self for the ‘post- apocalyptic’ world we WILL have by centuries end. Let us know, what you think…Fortunately for me, I will be dead and not suffering…sorry Ethan, Jenna, hope you planned to retire in a distopia.
